THE BERNARD BERKHOUT SWING ORCHESTRA (NL)
Bernhard Berkhout is one of the leading jazz clarinetists in Europe and he has played with a host of major jazz figures. A few years ago his passion for the big band sound of the 1930s lead him to bring together some of the finest professional players in Holland to recreate the ideas and arrangements of his hero, jazz legend Benny Goodman. Since then the band has gone from strength to strength and has built a reputation as one of the hardest swinging and authentic outfits on the continent.
The Swingmates are based around the Bernhard Berkhout Swing Orchestra’s rhythm section and recreate the famous Benny Goodman small bands sound, which not only generated hit after hit back in the late ‘30s and early 1940s, but also was the first integrated band in America. Absolutely authentic sounds, great playing and … SWING! SWING! SWING!
